A Day Like Job's

14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: 15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee 18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house: 19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. Chapter 3 1After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. 2And Job spake, and said, 3Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived. 11Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? Job 1:14-15, 18-19; 3:1-3, 11 Before Job could get to the point that he had to realize that he should trust God no matter what, he had a breakdown moment. Job wanted to curse the day he was born because his grief was overwhelming. He couldn’t understand why he was even allowed to be born if he was only going to wish he hadn’t! Many of us experience Job-like days! Some days are better than others, but there are days in which we really feel as if we’ve been knocked down to the ground with our faces forced against the cold concrete and someone’s foot in the small of our backs! Job definitely felt as if the wind had been knocked out of him. As soon as one person came to deliver bad news, another came with equally bad news. As God’s children, we are not exempt from trouble. Shall we always accept good from God and not adversity? Sometimes we, like Job, experience trouble even when we’ve done nothing wrong. We must understand that prosperity is not always a reward for being good. Through our troubles, God is trying to pull something out of us, move us to another level, and get the glory for Himself through us. What do you look like when you’re going through? Do you look as if you are already defeated or do you look like you are confident that God will bring you through? Is God enough for you even when you don’t have the answers or see your relief in sight? Remember that Satan has to ask God’s permission to afflict you just as he did regarding Job and his power is limited. Though you may not be able to control how Satan attacks you, you can choose how you will respond. Trust in the Lord knowing that He knows your situation and has already worked out the outcome. Satisfy yourself with the knowledge that knowing God is better than knowing the answers. Saturate yourself in His Word and rest in His promises and you will be alright during your Job-like days!
