A most excellent way

O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. Psalm 8:1 When I think of the word excellence, which denotes that there is a barometer by which to measure a successful act - from mediocre to excellent, there is only one act that supersedes all others. That act is the ultimate act - the one act that has revolutionized my existence. No, it is not the moment I was born, although kudos goes to my mother who brought me into this world. It is not my high school diploma, which every teenager strives to achieve only to have to endure four or more years of formal education. Neither is it a college degree that acts as a ladder to finally push you to your dreams, your potential - your affirmation that you are going to make something of your life. All of these things are wonderful. Striving for excellence should be a daily part of our lives. However, the single, most important, most life-changing act that supersedes all acts of excellence was the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary’s cross for me! A Most Excellent Way - indeed, to show a love for someone - to give one’s life so that another could live. There are many ways in which we show one another our devotion, our love… flowers, cards, romantic gestures, etc. Jesus chose a most excellent way! He, already being God, came down through 42 generations, bursting through time, setting a virgin’s womb afire - clothing himself - the Almighty God, in the form of man - enduring pain and agony just so that I, a sinner, an unworthy and wretched soul might have a right to Life! What an awesome example of the excellence we have! Whatever we strive to do, whatever our purpose is in this life, we can strive for excellence by following our Father’s blueprint! “Oh, Lord, Our Lord, How Excellent is thy name in all the Earth! His Way was a Most Excellent Way!
