Rescue Me

16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. 17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. 18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. 19 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. Psalm 18;16-19 (NIV) Remember the 1960's hit song, "Rescue Me?" I believe it was the Supremes who belted out the lyrics to the popular song. But isn't it comforting to know that the Lord rescued us from not only an eternity in hell, but also from our enemies, from our circumstances, and even from ourselves! The psalmist says He reached down from on high and took hold of me, drawing me out of deep waters! Oh, there were definitely times in my life where I felt as if I were drowning - drowning in sin, drowning in self-pity, drowning in life's tumultuous seas! Thank you, Lord, for reaching down to rescue me, to deliver me, to "take me in your arms". Verse 17 says He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes who were too strong for me. The Lord is our protector, while others seek to devour us, while the devil himself seeks to kill us - the Lord protects us and rescues us. We are His children, He is more powerful than any force that seeks to destroy us - His mighty hands of protection will embrace us and guide us. Even in those times when our enemies confront us - when your boss corners you, when your co-workers taunt you, when your family ridicules you, the Lord will be your support (v.18). We can rest in the fact that He has our back - He will uphold us with the right hand of His righteousness (Isaiah 42). Need rescuing? The Lord is there with you, He sees you sinking, He sees your enemies surrounding you, prancing upon you, and He will rescue you because He delights in YOU!!! (v. 19)
