Whatcha holdin' on for?

19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Psalm 68:19 Have you ever felt so burdened down with worry and anxiety that it invaded your sleep and interfered with your daily routine? Sometimes we can be so on edge about the things that are going on in our lives – our bills, our family situations, our jobs. There seems to be something always in our way! But the Psalmist lets us see clearly the prescription for our impediment: The Lord – Our burden bearer! We sing songs about the Lord bearing our burdens, we hear sermons about the Lord bearing our burdens – but for some reason when it comes time to give them to Him – we either hold on to them tighter, or we give them to Him and then take them back! Watcha holding on to those burdens for? Why don’t we just trust Him at His Word and allow Him to carry our burdens. The psalmist lets us know that this is a benefit to being a child of the King! The KJV says, “"Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation!" Not taking advantage of the many benefits available to us through our Father is like having a gift card worth hundreds of dollars from our local grocery store, yet we sit around with no food in our home. Wouldn’t you say that was pretty foolish? I know that I am guilty of playing ping pong with my issues with God. I’m on one side of the table giving Him my issues and then allowing them to come back to me – and when it gets so hard that I can’t bear it, I try again to hit them back to Him. I love the hymn that goes, “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey!” Let’s agree together to take advantage of our benefits in Jesus – we will give Him our burdens and leave them there.
